Underpinning the new Countryman family is the BMW Group’s UKL architecture used by the likes of the BMW X1/iX1 and the BMW 2-Series Active Tourer. Entry-level models come with a single electric motor pushing out 201 hp and 184 lb-ft (250 Nm) of torque but it is the SE ALL4 version that should get shoppers excited. Mini describes it as a “versatile adventurer” and a “reliable companion for exploring new paths.” That may be some lame PR speak but the SE ALL4 certainly appears to be the most well-rounded of all the electric Minis.

First is the powertrain. Driving the Countryman SE ALL4 is a pair of electric motors that combine to produce 313 hp and 364 lb-ft (494 Nm) of torque. These motors give the EV all-wheel drive and allow it to hit 100 km/h (62 mph) in 5.6 seconds and reach a 180 km/h (112 mph) top speed. Providing the motors with their juice is a 66.45 kWh battery pack that supports 130 kW DC charging, meaning the battery can be topped up from 10-80% in less than 30 minutes.

The exterior design of the SE ALL4 is notably different than the base Countryman E and reflects its more rugged and capable personality. These changes start at the front end with a skid plate that’s there more for appearances than practicality but is still a nice touch. A unique set of 20-inch wheels with bronze-colored spokes also comes standard on the SE ALL4, as does distinctive badging. Nicely complementing the tweaked front end is a unique diffuser and black bumper.

Mini has also overhauled the new car’s dashboard, door panels, and center console, providing it with a more modern feeling without taking away some of the retro vibes that we all know and love.
