Sweet dreams, New York Post readers. Pure Silk Sleepwear
Before you drift off to sleep, we do want to ask: when is the last time you’ve sorted through your pajama drawer? If you’re currently looking at a pile of ratty college tee shirts and old gym shorts, it is certainly time for an upgrade.
There’s something special about wearing a matching pajama set, especially if that set is made from super soft silk.
Silk is not only luxurious, but also has many benefits for your skin and hair that many don’t even realize. Silk pillow cases, for example, are great for the hair and help to eliminate knots and snarls when tossing and turning in your sleep. Similarly, silk sheets can help your skin stay cool for hot sleepers and actually absorb less moisture than cotton sheets, great for those with dry skin.
Back to the jammies, silk is a great option for all of the above reasons and then some. However, for those that wear silk clothes, the first thought that comes to mind? Laundry!
Never fear, as not only did we find the best silk pajamas, but all of our options are made from washable silk. That means you can feel free to grab your garment bag and head to the laundromat, washing these PJ’s sans a dry cleaning bill. We have picks from Eberjey, LilySilk, Quince — the works!
Read on for our in-depth review of the top three most-searched-for brands, and then do make note of other bestsellers, listed below.
Splurge on these pajamas and get the beauty sleep of your dreams.
We tried the Inez Washable Silk Long PJ Set, in the luxurious limited edition Rose Cloud/Champagne color, opting for a size large. Even in the packaging they looked like something I would only buy for my bridal shower, making the steep price of $298 worth it.
The long sleeve and pant look is one of my personal favorites, as there is something very “five-star hotel robe” about a matching long set. Once slipped on, the quality can be both seen and felt, with a visible sheen that shimmered in the lowlight of my before-bed room and super soft fabric, of course.
The true test came with the wash, passing with flying colors — that also didn’t bleed or fade. I chose to hang dry this pair, given their price, and it is recommended to do so to preserve their size and quality. The only con is that they do tend to wrinkle fast, coming a bit creased in the packaging but nothing a steamer couldn’t fix. Post-washing machine, so long as you hang them or set them flat to dry, the wrinkles were the least of my worries.
Slip into silk and then hit the sheets with Lilysilk. The brand offers a variety of pajama sets to choose from, each made of washable silk that is delightful on the skin. We love this short and top set, not only because it’s sold together but because it gives the best of two worlds. Made of 100% silk charmeuse, the long sleeves provide a smidge of warmth, while the bottoms allows some air in. The set is available in three different colors, has a relaxed fit and is Certified OEKO STANDARD 100. Another bonus? For an additional fee, it can be monogrammed or customized to fit you and your unique curves to a T.
For a mix-and-match moment at a fraction of the cost of typical silk, we went with Quince for the pajamas of our dreams.
I ordered the 100% Washable Silk Pajama Button Up Top and the matching 100% Washable Silk Pajama Pants, both in a size large. The prices are far less than retail, noted on the site, with the top coming to $60 and the bottoms for $80. After a bit of math, this makes the set the most affordable option we reviewed, at $140 total.
The fabric looked and felt amazing right from the bag, with a more suede feel than silk, that was even more luxurious. I also loved the high slit in the pant leg, allowing my legs to breathe when tossing and turning, although this may be annoying for those that like to stay covered completely.
After a ride in the washing machine, the PJ’s didn’t lose the suede-like softness, and they were the least wrinkled pair I tried on.
Here is a brand we all know and trust. Shop Nordstrom’s own line of washable silk pajamas now, with affordable prices and styles for both straight sizes and extended sizes to fit most. Our pick from the retailer? This 100% silk nightgown. It’s machine-washable, can be adjusted for comfort, plus comes in two colors. We love how long it is, but if you’re worried about movability, it also has a side split, which should help with that.
Thirdlove is one of our favorite places to shop lingerie, as well as silk pajamas. This pair from Lunya is our recommendation for this roundup. Along with being machine-washable, they’re naturally thermoregulating to keep night sweats at bay. They also have the brand’s signature waistband to keep the shorts from riding up.
Review: “Sized up so they are really comfy and flowy. [They’re so light] that I don’t feel like I’m wearing anything.”
Thinking of something sexy and silk for the bedroom? Fleur du Mal has just what you need. They offer an array of washable silk items, including robes, slips, boxers and sets for every evening. We love this pair of pajama shorts because of its fun but oddly sophisticated magical mushroom print. It’s made from 100% silk, so you’ll have to hand-wash. However, it should keep you chilled and comfortable all night long. For the sake of our wallets, we like pairing it with a basic tank. Of course, if you want a more seamless bedtime look, add the matching short-sleeve top ($225) into your cart.
Sorry, Gen Z, I will never switch from my beloved high-rise pants to anything below the belly button.
That’s why I wanted to try the Washable Silk High Rise Pant Set, as I hadn’t seen PJ’s marketed as high rise before and needed to get my hands on them ASAP. I ordered the dreamy deep blue color in a size large, with the high rise pants and a matching short-sleeve top in the set for $278. This is another pricier pair, made from 100% washable Mulberry silk, that can go in the washer in a garment bag and should be hang dried.
The wear-test was great, both right from the bag and then after a wash and dry. Like the Quince set from above, the fabric borders on suede, but far more lightweight and breathable. The pants (my favorite) also have a slit up the side, but not as high up as the Quince set, allowing more movement but not becoming bunched up in the night.
In terms of wrinkles, these were in the middle of the three brands, with a few creases here and there, but once ready for bed, they were hardly noticed and came out looking fine after being laid flat to dry.
This brand has it right in the name, huh? For all things silky, head to SilkSilky. The pajama section is full of washable options for him and for her, including this classic set. It has a five-star raring on the brand’s website with one happy reviewer calling it “pure luxe.” Made from 100% mulberry silk, the PJs offer a relaxed but tailored fit, feature a breast pocket and gorgeous piping detail.
Review: “I received the green set for Christmas. They are so luxurious and warm. The green color is so much more attractive in person. I’m loving them.”
Cozy Earth makes incredible pajamas, including those of the silk variety. This pair has been treated with aloe vera to make them feel extra smooth and silky. They also have inner French seams, as well as a wide-leg, which we adore.
Review: “I’ve been wearing the Cozy Earth bamboo PJs for over two years and love them. I was so excited to see the new silk pajamas come out. I love them! The material is so soft and comfy. Highly recommend.”
Is there anything that can’t be found on Amazon? Made from 100% mulberry silk, this long pajamas are the bees knees. They’re drapey, soft and very cool to the touch, regulating your temperature as you snooze away. Regardless if you want something in white or fire engine red, these PJs come in a variety of colors. We know one is just right for you!
Review: “I had not owned silk PJs before, and now they are all I want to sleep in! They are so soft, [comfortable] and well made. I love the silk wrapped buttons. I always worry that the pants won’t be long enough, since I’m very tall. But these were fine! Dreamy and luxurious!”
You may think that these silk pajamas are a bit of a cheat because they also have satin. However, it’s one of the reasons they are a tad more affordable than the other picks in our lineup. If you’re still sore about it, know that they are still very smooth and soft ,and should keep you comfortable all night long. They feature contrast-color trim too, and can be washed by hand.
If you know La Perla, you know they’re all about luxury intimates. We dare you to slip this cami and short set on after a hot bath and not feel utterly pampered. Is it an investment with both pieces coming in at $195? Yep! But we’re willing to bet you’re worth it.
Review: “It falls perfectly and the fabric is beautiful.”
If you’re searching best silk pajamas because you’re a hot sleeper or are dealing with hot flashes, these are for you. They’re made from silk and organic cotton, another material known to be night sweat friendly. Together, these materials make a mighty sleep duo, sure to keep you dry and cozy as you snooze away. The set is only available in one color, but we think the striped detail makes up for it.
Review: “Love this pajama set! [It’s] so comfy and has a beautiful style.”
We’re obsessed with the fun print of this silk pajamas set. So much, in fact, that we’d even consider turning in early if it gave us a chance to put it on faster. It’s not just the piping detail that we’re mad about but the pockets, as well as the slightly flared sleeves. Don’t say we suggested it, but we think the top is sophisticated enough to wear with a pair of slacks or jeans. Trust us, no one will know you’ve showed up to the office in your PJs. And that’s still sort of a trend anyway, right?
For special occasions, consider slipping into this lightweight and lacy nighty. It has an easy slipover style, adjustable straps and a bias cut that is sure to flatter. It’s not made from 100% silk, but the additional materials of cotton and nylon should still make for a cooling experience.
Buttery smooth and ultra light, we’d love to slip into this silk PJ set after a long day. Armed with gorgeous piping and delicate ruffles at the bottom of the shirt, we suspect you’ll want to sport this night after night. There are also pockets, which we always love to see, and the elastic waistband promises a comfortable fit.
Ready to ditch the sweats for something more luxurious? The silk options at Haven Well Within are just the thing. They’re available in an assortment of colors, and are simply heavenly in how airy they feel. We love the bottoms, even when worn with a basic tank. However, they’re amazing with the long sleeve silk top, especially in these chillier months.
Whether you’re a new mommy or not, this piped silk pajama set is the perfect “treat yourself” gift. It has gorgeous mother of pearl buttons, side pockets, and self-ties at the waist. Available in four colors, you’ll feel as if you’re pampering yourself every time you put them on.
Seeking something flirty for date night that you can still wear on a regular basis? Well, you’ve found it. We love the lace trim of this PJ set, as well as the ruffled bottoms. The straps are adjustable for a better fit, and the set is available in three sophisticated colors.
You’ve probably noticed that silk pajamas are on the pricier side. The reason is expensive is because it’s labor-intensive to harvest. The process involves cultivating the product from silkworms, which need a special diet and care to produce the material.
High-quality silk is produced in China, Brazil, Thailand or India, which also ups its value (and cost) because of shipping and labor. Quality standards, because it is a luxury product, are also high.
Having said all this, there are many reasons why silk pajamas are worth the investment. Here are a few:
If the price is a huge issue for you (and we get it), we suggest looking at retailers like Quince or SilkySilk, which often have sales or discount codes for sleepwear. And since the holidays are around the corner, this is a great time to score some major deals!
Unfortunately, this is a big no-no. While you shouldn’t be tossing any of your delicates in the dryer if you want to keep them in supreme condition, you certainly want to avoid doing that with anything silk.
The high temperatures can damage the material by shrinking or causing unnecessary tear. We know you don’t want that.
The best way to care for your silk pajamas is by hand-washing them (follow the directions of the pajama brand), and then gently sop up excess moisture with a towel before hanging to dry. It’s important to not place the pajamas in front of direct sunlight, as this can also impact the integrity of the garment.
