Wieland Expands Portfolio with Acquisition of Small Tube Products

Wieland Group, a German supplier specializing in copper and copper alloy products, including tubes for CO2 (R744) HVAC&R applications, recently acquired the U.S.-based company Small Tube Products to expand its product offerings to include capillary tubes.

Based in Duncansville, Pennsylvania, Small Tube Products, founded over 75 years ago, primarily produces copper, copper-alloy and aluminum small-diameter and thin-wall specialty tubing. The company has “the largest and most diverse precision redraw tube mill in North America, serving customers in the automotive, electrical, transportation, heat transfer, welding and consumer product industries,” Wieland said in its press release. The transaction was finalized on July 31, with Small Tube Products to continue operations under the Wieland brand in Wieland’s Thermal Solutions Business Unit.

“As a global leader providing high-performance tubes for refrigeration and air-conditioning technology for an energy-efficient future, the combination of our teams’ seasoned experience and distinctive capabilities will allow us to continue setting new industry standards,” said Ivan Di Stefano, President of Thermal Solutions Business Unit at Wieland.

“The addition of Small Tube Products to the Wieland Group enables us to further expand our product portfolio and manufacturing capabilities while delivering enhanced value to our growing customer base,” said Erwin Mayr, Wieland Group CEO.

This latest acquisition further expands Wieland’s market presence in North America.

Last December, the company acquired Pennsylvania-based Heyco Metals – specialists in light- and medium-gauge copper, copper alloy and stainless-steel strip processing – and Michigan-based National Bronze – a manufacturer and distributor of bronze-based bearing products.

In April 2022, the company acquired Illinois-based Total Metal Recycling which processes roughly 100,000 tons (90,718,474kg) of scrap metal annually, including copper, lead, zinc, aluminum, electronic and other metals. “The integration of Totall Metal Recycling’s experienced team and partner network expands our recycling capabilities and accelerates the execution of our sustainability and recycling strategy,” Mayr said.

According to the company’s 2021/2022 Sustainability Report, Wieland increased the recycled content of its group-wide product portfolio to 75.6% in the year under review and aims to achieve 90% recycled content by 2030.

In July 2021, Wieland acquired Connecticut-based The Miller Company, a copper and copper-based alloy strip distributor.

Founded in Ulm, Germany, in 1820, the Wieland Group operates globally in over 80 locations.

“The addition of Small Tube Products to the Wieland Group enables us to further expand our product portfolio.”
